Measure at home in 2 minutes
You need a strip of paper (or a string or shoelace), a pen and a ruler.
- Take a string or a shoelace and mark on it the length you are considering, for example 56 cm (22").
- Hold the two marks together at the back of your neck, wearing the kind of top you usually wear.
- Look in a mirror: the lowest point of the string is where the chain will sit.
- Too high or too low? Try 5 cm (2") more or less: that is one size up or down.
Already own a chain you like? Lay it flat, clasp closed, and measure it end to end. A broad neck or chest makes every length sit a little higher.
No ruler? A bank card is 8.6 cm (3.4") long: count how many fit along your strip.

Twisted links that move the light along your neck.
Atlas held the world steady while everything around him moved. This rope chain does the opposite: it moves with you. The twisted strands turn as you turn, so light runs along the neck instead of sitting still. Pick 2mm for a quiet line under a collar, or 5mm to read clearly against a plain tee. Steel or gold-tone, in 18, 20 or 24 inches, for bare skin in summer or a crewneck in winter.
- Wear it through the shower and the gym
- Five widths, 2 to 5mm
- Lobster clasp on a tubular end cap
Details & specs
The chain is stainless steel, a metal that holds a polish and does not rust. The links are twisted into a continuous rope pattern, so the surface is textured rather than flat and keeps its shape as it moves. Water and sweat do it no harm, so you can leave it on in the shower, at the gym and at the beach.
It comes in the natural steel color or in a gold-tone plated finish. A lobster clasp closes it on a tubular end cap, neat at the back of the neck. Widths run 2mm, 2.5mm, 3mm, 4mm and 5mm, so the same chain works as a quiet detail or as the main accessory of the outfit.
How to wear it
With a white tee, a 3mm or 4mm in 20" lands just below the collarbone and gives the neckline a clear line. Under an open collar shirt, a 2mm or 2.5mm in 18" stays half hidden and reads as a detail. Match the finish to your watch and rings, steel with steel and gold-tone with gold-tone, and add a 24" below for a layered look.
Choosing your size
18" (45 cm) sits high on the neck, close to the collarbone, and suits slimmer necks or wear under a shirt collar. 20" (50 cm) is the safe choice for most men and falls just below the collarbone on a tee. 24" (60 cm) drops onto the chest, sits well on broader builds and is the length for layering or for a pendant.
Why this piece
Texture you notice across a room
The rope pattern breaks up the light instead of reflecting it flat, so the chain looks alive when you move.
Leave it on
Stainless steel does not rust and does not turn your skin green, in the water or out of it.

Questions
Is the 2mm to 5mm rope chain fine at the gym and the beach?
Yes. The stainless steel does not rust, so water and sweat do it no harm. On the gold-tone, a rinse in fresh water after the sea keeps the plated color even.
Is it easy to put on alone?
Yes. The lobster clasp opens with a thumb and closes on the tubular end cap, so it is simple to fasten on your own.
Can I layer two of them?
Yes. Pair two widths at different lengths, for example a 2.5mm in 18" over a 4mm in 24", and keep both in the same finish so the stack reads as one.
Which rope chain width and length should I give a son starting out?
20" in 3mm, the most universal combination. It falls just below the collarbone over a tee and suits a father or a partner just as well.
What is the end cap for?
It is a small tube that finishes the end of the chain. The lobster clasp closes onto it, neat at the back of the neck.
Where do the 18, 20 and 24 in rope chains sit?
18" (45 cm) sits high, close to the collarbone, and suits wear under a shirt collar. 20" (50 cm) falls just below the collarbone on a tee, and 24" (60 cm) drops onto the chest, good on broader builds.
Can the 24 in rope chain carry a pendant?
Yes. The 24" is the length for a pendant because it drops onto the chest; choose 3mm or wider so the twist carries it.
Which width suits a slim neck?
2mm to 3mm keeps the proportions right, at 18 or 20 in. The 4mm and 5mm make the chain the main accessory.
