The chain is stainless steel, worked in a snake weave: small plates fitted so closely that the surface reads as one continuous, flexible line. There are no open links to twist or snag on a shirt. Stainless steel does not rust, so the chain goes through the shower, the gym and the sea without a second thought.

No. The stainless steel under the gold-tone does not rust, so showers, the gym and the sea are fine. Rinse it in fresh water after the pool or the sea and wipe it dry so the plated color stays even.
