Atlas kept his rhythm under the sky: hold, breathe, hold again. A Figaro chain has a rhythm too, three short links and then one long flat one, repeating down the chest. Made from 304 stainless steel and polished bright, it catches light in a way a plain curb chain does not. Choose gold-tone or natural steel in 18, 20 or 24 in, and wear it against a tee or under an open collar.

The chain is made from 304 stainless steel, a material that holds its shape and resists rust and corrosion, so showers, sweat and a full week of wear are no trouble. The Figaro pattern alternates three shorter links with one elongated flat link, so the chain reads as more than a simple row of loops and has movement along its length.

The links are polished to a bright shine. The gold option is electroplated for a warm gold-tone color, and we say so; the steel option keeps the natural cool grey of stainless steel. Flat link faces let the chain lie close to the skin instead of rolling, so it stays neat under a collar and over a tee alike.

On a plain white or black tee, the Figaro pattern is enough on its own. Under an open collar with a shirt or a light jacket, only part of it shows, which is the point. Match the gold-tone version to a gold-tone watch or ring, and the steel version to a steel watch case or a steel bracelet.

Three lengths: 18 in (45 cm), 20 in (50 cm) and 24 in (60 cm). The 18 in sits at the base of the neck and shows above a crew neck. The 20 in is the middle ground and falls slightly lower on the chest. The 24 in drops toward mid-chest and works over a tee or with a pendant. If he wears his shirts buttoned high, choose 18 in; if he lives in tees, 24 in.
