The chain is stainless steel, built in the round snake style: small segments fitted so closely that they form a smooth, flexible tube. There are no visible gaps, so the light runs along it evenly instead of sparkling in spots. The silver version is polished stainless steel. The gold-tone and rose gold-tone versions are electroplated finishes, and we say so plainly.
