Two minutes with a strip of paper or a soft tape and you will order the right size first time.

You need a strip of paper (or a string or shoelace), a pen and a ruler.
With a ring that fits (most accurate)
- Lay a ring you wear on that finger on the ruler and measure the inside diameter, edge to edge, in millimetres.
- Find that diameter in the table below.
With a strip of paper
- Wrap the strip around the base of your finger: it must still slide over the knuckle.
- Mark where it overlaps, lay it flat and measure it in millimetres: that is the circumference. Find it in the table below.
Measure at the end of the day, when fingers are slightly larger.
No ruler? A bank card is 8.6 cm long: count how many fit along your strip.
| EU | US | UK | Diameter | Circumf. |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 49 | 5 | J½ | 15.7 mm | 49.3 mm |
| 52 | 6 | L½ | 16.5 mm | 51.9 mm |
| 54 | 7 | O | 17.3 mm | 54.4 mm |
| 57 | 8 | Q | 18.1 mm | 57.0 mm |
| 59 | 9 | S | 19.0 mm | 59.5 mm |
| 62 | 10 | U | 19.8 mm | 62.1 mm |
| 65 | 11 | W | 20.6 mm | 64.6 mm |
| 67 | 12 | Y | 21.4 mm | 67.2 mm |
| 70 | 13 | Z+1 | 22.2 mm | 69.7 mm |
| 72 | 14 | Z+3 | 23.0 mm | 72.3 mm |
| 75 | 15 | Z+4 | 23.8 mm | 74.8 mm |
| 77 | 16 | Z+6 | 24.6 mm | 77.3 mm |
Half sizes sit halfway between two rows (about 0.4 mm of diameter).
Good to know: measure at the end of the day, when fingers are slightly larger. Wide bands (8 mm and more) feel tighter: if you are between two sizes, take the larger one. Tungsten carbide cannot be resized, so it is worth measuring twice.

A matte black band with a single groove and two bright edges.
Atlas stood under the heavens and did not bend. A good band should behave the same way on your hand. This one is tungsten carbide in black, brushed flat across the center with a fine groove running all the way around, framed by polished beveled edges. It sits flat and low, so it reads as a band rather than a statement. Choose 6mm for a discreet fit or 8mm for more presence.
- No rust, no green marks, no fuss
- Brushed center groove, polished bevels
- 6mm or 8mm, US sizes 6 to 15
Details & specs
The band is tungsten carbide, one of the hardest materials used in men's rings, which is why it holds its shape and resists surface scratches through daily use. The black color is an electroplated finish applied over the full band, inside and out, and we say it plainly: it is plating, laid over a very hard base that does not bend.
The center is brushed flat with a narrow groove running around the ring, framed by polished beveled edges. That contrast between matte and mirror is the whole design: nothing applied, nothing set, just two finishes on one clean profile. The 6mm and the 8mm share exactly the same look; only the width changes.
How to wear it
On the ring finger or the index, it works with a white tee and dark denim and disappears cleanly under a shirt cuff with a suit. The black finish pairs easily with a steel or black watch and stays neutral next to almost any other metal you wear. It suits a wedding band as well as a daily ring, a birthday or an anniversary.
Choosing your size
Choose your usual US ring size: the range runs from 6 to 15, with every half size in between. The 8mm has more presence and suits wider fingers and bigger hands; the 6mm sits more discreetly and works on slimmer fingers or next to other rings. A wider band feels tighter, so go up a half size with the 8mm if you are between sizes. Tungsten carbide cannot be resized.
Why this piece
Hard-wearing by nature
Tungsten carbide is far harder than most jewelry metals and does not rust. The surface stays smooth through daily wear, water and sweat.
Two widths, one clean line
The brushed center and polished bevels give the band depth without stones, engraving or logos, in 6mm or 8mm.

Questions
Can the black groove band stay on in the sea?
Yes. Tungsten carbide does not rust, in the 6mm as in the 8mm. Dry it afterward so the brushed center and the polished bevels keep an even black.
Will the black color last?
The black is an electroplated finish over a highly scratch-resistant band. Keep abrasive cleaners and harsh chemicals away from it and it keeps its even look with everyday wear.
Should I choose 6mm or 8mm?
The 6mm is discreet and easy to wear next to other rings. The 8mm has more presence on a larger hand; if you pick it and fall between sizes, go up a half.
Is it black on the inside as well?
Yes. The black electroplated finish covers the full band, inside and out.
Is the groove the same on both widths?
Yes. The 6mm and the 8mm share the same brushed center, groove and polished bevels; only the width changes.
Can tungsten carbide bend?
No. It is far too hard to bend out of shape the way softer metals can. Under a severe blow against stone it would chip or crack instead.
Does it come in half sizes?
Yes. Every half size from US 6 to 15 is offered, in both the 6mm and the 8mm.
What is the groove for?
It is pure design: a fine line around the brushed center that sets off the polished bevels and adds depth, with no stones or engraving.
Best wedding bands for men who work out
A domed or rounded band is the most comfortable under grip, and tungsten carbide keeps its finish. The Black Tungsten Carbide Groove Band comes in 6mm or 8mm, US 6 to 15. In steel, the Domed Stainless Steel Band Ring is rounded at the edges. Many men take rings off for heavy lifting to protect the finger. More in Mens Wedding Bands.
Are tungsten wedding bands a good idea for men?
Yes, if he wants a band that keeps its look: tungsten carbide is one of the hardest materials used in jewelry and resists everyday scratches far better than softer metals. It is also heavy, which many men like. It cannot be resized, so measure carefully. Try the Black Tungsten Carbide Groove Band or the Blue Celtic Tungsten Carbide Ring. See Tungsten Male Wedding Bands.
Does a black ring wear off?
Black Atlas pieces are a plated finish over the metal, so the color is a surface layer. On tungsten carbide, such as the Black Tungsten Carbide Groove Band, the hard base resists everyday scratches far better than softer metals. Avoid harsh chemicals; normal surface wear is not covered by the warranty. Black jewelry also includes Men's Black Rings.
What should I get my husband for our 10th anniversary, he wears a black wedding band
Match his black band. The Black Tungsten Carbide Groove Band is a matte black tungsten band with a single groove, 6mm or 8mm, US 6 to 15. Or add a black piece elsewhere: the Black Wheat Chain Bracelet, Stainless Steel is a dark, dense stainless steel wheat chain bracelet. Black finishes are plated over the metal.
What's the difference between stainless steel, titanium steel and tungsten carbide jewelry?
All three do not rust and do not turn the skin green. 316L stainless steel is the everyday all-rounder, used for most Atlas chains and bracelets. Titanium steel is a stainless steel alloy, also built for daily wear. Tungsten carbide is much harder and heavier, which makes it very scratch resistant: Atlas uses it for rings like the Black Tungsten Carbide Groove Band, and for a pendant, the Tungsten Carbide Pendant Necklace.
What does a black ring mean on a man?
A black ring has no fixed meaning; most men wear one for the look, as a low-key wedding band or as an alternative to shiny metal. Matte black tungsten is the classic: the Brushed Black Tungsten Carbide Ring, 8mm or the Black Tungsten Carbide Groove Band. Black is a plated finish.
