Measure at home in 2 minutes
You need a strip of paper (or a string or shoelace), a pen and a ruler.
- Take a string or a shoelace and mark on it the length you are considering, for example 56 cm.
- Hold the two marks together at the back of your neck, wearing the kind of top you usually wear.
- Look in a mirror: the lowest point of the string is where the chain will sit.
- Too high or too low? Try 5 cm more or less: that is one size up or down.
Already own a chain you like? Lay it flat, clasp closed, and measure it end to end. A broad neck or chest makes every length sit a little higher.
No ruler? A bank card is 8.6 cm long: count how many fit along your strip.

Chain width
Square links that lock flush and hold a straight drape.
Atlas had one job, and he did it without fuss. A good chain should behave the same way. This box chain is built from small stainless steel squares that lock flush into each other, so it reads as one smooth line instead of a row of loops. The natural steel is brightly polished and closes with a lobster clasp, in five widths from 1.2mm to 3mm and seven lengths from 16 to 28 in.
- Gym, shower, beach: no need to remove it

- Bright polished natural steel
Details & specs
Built as a box chain in stainless steel: each link is a small square that locks into the next, which gives the chain a solid, even surface and a straight drape. Stainless steel is a hard-wearing metal that resists rust and corrosion, so it suits a chain you leave on through gym sessions, showers and long days at work.
The finish is the natural color of the steel with a bright polish, so it reads silver-tone and pairs easily with a steel watch. It closes with a lobster clasp, the standard secure closure for everyday chains. Widths are 1.2mm, 1.5mm, 2mm, 2.4mm and 3mm, running from a fine thread at the collar to a line you can see across a room.
How to wear it
On its own over a white or black tee is the easiest option: the chain sits just below the collar and frames the neckline. Under an open collar shirt it shows only when you move, which works for the office and for dinner. Keep a thinner width for layering under a longer chain or a pendant, and match it with a steel watch.
Choosing your size
Lengths are 16 in (40cm), 18 in (45cm), 20 in (50cm), 22 in (55cm), 24 in (60cm), 26 in (65cm) and 28 in (70cm). For most men 20 in sits at the collarbone over a tee, 22 in falls just below it, and 24 in lands mid-chest, good for a pendant; 16 and 18 in sit close to the neck. For width, 1.2mm and 1.5mm are subtle, 2mm and 2.4mm the everyday middle, 3mm a statement.
Why this piece
Holds its shape
Box links sit flush and keep the chain flat against the skin instead of rolling or kinking.
Steel you can forget about

Questions
Will showers and gym sessions dull the minimalist box chain?
No. The natural stainless steel resists rust and corrosion and has no plating to wear off. After the sea, rinse it and wipe it dry to keep the bright polish.
Which minimalist box chain width is the safe start for a gift?
2mm or 2.4mm, at 20 or 22 in. It is the everyday middle and suits a brother, a son or a partner who wears a steel watch.
Will it twist or kink?
Box links sit flush and hold their shape, so the chain stays flat instead of rolling. Store it laid flat or hanging and it keeps its straight line.
Is this chain plated?
No. It is polished stainless steel in its natural color, which reads silver-tone, so there is no plating to wear off.
How is a box chain different from a rope chain?
A box chain is built from small square links that sit flush, giving a smooth, straight line. A rope chain twists its links into a spiral for more texture and sparkle.
Is 16 in too short for a man?
It sits at the base of the neck, close like a choker. It suits a slim build or a layered look; for most men, 20 in at the collarbone is the easier length.
Can I wear it with a pendant?
Yes. 24 in puts a pendant mid-chest. Choose 2mm or wider so the chain holds its own next to the pendant.
Is there a gold-tone option?
No. It comes in polished natural steel only, which matches a steel watch.
