Measure at home in 2 minutes
You need a strip of paper (or a string or shoelace), a pen and a ruler.
- Take a string or a shoelace and mark on it the length you are considering, for example 56 cm.
- Hold the two marks together at the back of your neck, wearing the kind of top you usually wear.
- Look in a mirror: the lowest point of the string is where the chain will sit.
- Too high or too low? Try 5 cm more or less: that is one size up or down.
Already own a chain you like? Lay it flat, clasp closed, and measure it end to end. A broad neck or chest makes every length sit a little higher.
No ruler? A bank card is 8.6 cm long: count how many fit along your strip.

Chain width
Rounded box links that slide over fabric instead of catching.
Atlas braced his feet and the sky stayed up. Steady footing matters, and so does a chain that sits where you put it. This one is a rounded box link in stainless steel that lies flat and follows the collarbone in one clean line. Silver reads quiet and sharp, gold-tone warms an open collar, black almost disappears until the light moves. Three widths, 2mm to 3mm; lengths 20, 24 or 28 in.
- Steel that does not rust after a swim
- 2mm, 2.5mm or 3mm, with a lobster clasp
- Silver, gold-tone or black
Details & specs
The chain is made from stainless steel, a metal that holds its shape and resists rust and corrosion through daily wear, so it can stay on at the gym and in the shower. The box link is rounded rather than square-edged, so the chain lies flat and moves smoothly instead of catching on clothing. It has body and a steady drape.
The finishes are applied to the steel: a polished silver, a gold-tone plating and a black finish, named plainly so you know what you are getting. Each one closes with a lobster clasp. Choose 2mm for a fine line, 2.5mm for a balanced everyday weight, or 3mm for a chain that reads clearly from across a room.
How to wear it
With a white tee it gives a plain outfit a defined edge; under an open shirt collar the links catch light with every movement. Match the finish to your watch and rings, or pair the gold-tone with a brown leather strap for contrast. Add a pendant at the weekend, and wear it bare under a suit shirt for work.
Choosing your size
Lengths are 20, 24 and 28 in. A 20 in chain sits at the base of the neck, just below the collarbone, and works on its own or under a collar. The 24 in lands mid-chest, the usual choice if you plan to hang a pendant. The 28 in gives a lower drop over a tee, or works for layering with a shorter chain.
Why this piece
Weight without bulk
The rounded box link gives the chain body and a steady drape, so it stays put instead of shifting around.
Made to stay on
Stainless steel resists rust and does not turn your skin green, so you can put it on in the morning and leave it on.

Questions
Will sea water affect the black or gold-tone rounded box chain?
Not if you rinse it. Stainless steel resists rust and corrosion; after the pool or the sea, rinse the gold-tone or black in fresh water and wipe it so the finish stays even.
Is the gold color plated?
Yes. The gold-tone is a plating over stainless steel, and the black is an applied finish. Skip harsh cleaners and the color stays even for longer.
Which length works with a pendant?
24 in is the usual pendant length: it lets the pendant sit mid-chest. 20 in keeps it close to the collarbone, and 28 in gives a long, low drop.
How is a rounded box chain different from a square box chain?
The edges of each box link are softened, so the chain moves smoothly and does not catch on clothing. A square box chain has sharper corners and a more angular look.
Is 28 in too long?
Not for layering or a low drop over a tee. It hangs below mid-chest; for a single chain under a collar, 20 in is the closer fit.
Can I wear two box chains together?
Yes. Pair a 20 in with a 24 or 28 in in the same finish, so the two lines sit at least 5 cm (2 in) apart.
How do I wear the gold-tone rounded box chain with a leather watch?
Pair the gold-tone with a brown leather strap for contrast, or match the finish to your watch and rings. Under an open collar, the rounded links catch light with every movement.
Can I wear the rounded box chain to work under a suit shirt?
Yes, bare and under the shirt. The 20 in sits just below the collarbone and stays hidden by a collar; keep a pendant for the weekend.
